My ex boyfriend and very close friend has OCD. Until you see someone's entire life consumed/defined by it you will not understand why this sweater is hurtful. So maybe instead of bitching about people being overly sensitive, try looking from someone else's point of view.
I didn't bitch at all. I just said that people are sensitive. My boyfriend has tourettes and people make fun of that disorder all the time and he's never complained about it once. So thanks for assuming I'm an inconsiderate bitch, but I'm not. Nice try, guest.
The "Ahhh" and the "what the hell" pretty much indicate some bitching level here. And also: good for your tourette boyfriend (how'd you guys meet btw?) to be such a tough cracker, but how does this affect other people suffering from OCD? How about you leave it up to _them_ how to cope with _their_ shit?
I have OCD and people need to grow the hell up. Yea its tough living with OCD but I'm also an adult who can figure out when to complain about something that matters and when to realize it's an innocent shirt. There's nothing wrong with this shirt. Its funny and all in good fun
Like i said, people are so sensitive. They're just *begging* for something to be offended about. You're probably just like these people from the sounds of it.
Agreed. Greying hair is a natural thing that happens to everyone, but by making that sweater they make it seem that mental illnesses aren't that bad because they can be made fun of, but OCD isn't just wanting things done your way. Some people ( for example ) have to turn the light on a certain number of times or they think a murderer will break in. It isn't just " oh I'm OCD so my food can't touch :) awww right ? "
They're just terrible to have in general.
Exactly. It's so much more than simply being "overly sensitive" or "easily offended." Stuff like this just trivializes what people have to go through. I personally do not have OCD but I'm not going to belittle whatever suffering may come with that just to make/wear a cute sweater. I know there may very well be some people with OCD who don't find this offensive and obviously I can't speak for people with that disorder in any way, but I really don't like the idea behind this. Mental illnesses are not trendy. They are hell.
I've literally had people go " oh you have anxiety ? That's so cute ! "
Then I am showing symptoms and can't present something " oh my god ! Stop being a baby and just do it ! It's not that difficult ! "
EVEN THOUGH I told them not to put me up to present for this very reason !
Yeah, my dad doesn't really understand my anxiety. It kept me from going to school /a lot/ and he always looked for some reason to explain why I couldn't go. But there was no actual thing that held me back. Thankfully my mom gets it.
Yeah, but what I was saying was everyone gets grey hair so you shouldn't be offended if someone wants to dye their hair grey, but not everyone has a mental illness. Think of it like after TFIOS came out and some people faked having cancer because of it.
There's a (fine) difference between glorifying an illness and making fun of it. I think some of the people who faked cancer don't know where this line is. If I was at all the sort of person with the dedication to pull off a long-term "poke-fun-at-this"-fest, I would very likely have said that I have cancer and then satirized it to tears. I don't want cancer, I would have intended to make it something to laugh at because it's so serious.
Underyourbed, overcome your weaknesses. Thinking you can't because the doctors tell you you have anxiety is just putting a mental barrier on your brain. Also remember self pity is unappealing. Be better for yourself. Life is short.
I was diagnosed with Bipolar II five years ago, and I still think Bipolar jokes are hilarious (and I relate to most of them, which makes them even funnier)! This girl needs to grow up.
My motto is this: Don't take life too seriously, no one gets out alive.
Bipolar jokes along the lines of "I hate being bipolar. Its awesome!"? Or something similar? Because im mildly bipolar and bipolar jokes are hilarious IMHO

Omg that's literally the first bipolar joke I've ever heard and it's hilarious
Also if you have a mental illness and your reasoning is "I have (insert mental illness here) and I think (insert mental illness here) jokes are funny" then that is fine. But please don't call others overly sensitive for not having the same experience as you.
I think it's the context of the joke being said. I suffer from depression and anxiety and there's a certain way a joke can be delivered without being completely offensive.
Fuck those people. They will live miserable lives anyways. If you're offended by these little things in life then good luck living out the rest of your life happy.
There's a line for people. Just like how much pain one can handle there's an amount to what they can handle I'm jokes. Not everyone likes gallows humor, not everyone thinks holocaust jokrs are hilarious, those things can be found offensive to some people. Just because you don't doesn't mean they aren't, just like if you don't feel pain from something it doesn't mean another person doesn't either.
I could say the polite and socially acceptable thing of
Hey, we should all be able to laugh at ourselves but let's also be sensitive of each other
.
Or I could take the Tyler path and say
Fuck you and your sensitivities. Get over the fact that you have a disability and laugh at it. Hold it high. It's part of who you are. Sure it sucks having it, so laugh. Poke fun at it. Make it a source of fun for yourself and everyone else. As long as nobody's glorifying an illness, you shut that cock holster and laugh along with them.
I have ADHD, anxiety, and depression and I don't find jokes about them offensive usually. I guess it really depends on the person. On the other hand I'm really sick of people saying they have a mental illness because they like things to be clean, or don't like doing homework etc.
She looks liek a tumblrina and they actually encourage self diagnosis more than professional ( because they think they know more than professionals who learned about this stuff for almost a decade)
I just love funsubstance sometimes like minded ppl coming together telling the world to stop bitching its nice... Only if they could just tell my mother ;)
