I think it is. I believe the shooting they are referring to is the news shooting. Someone shot newscasters on live TV a month or so ago because of racism in the workplace. I believe they are referring to the confederate flag, which has been seen as and accepted as a symbol of hate, mainly toward African-Americans. What the gay pride flag has to do with it, I have no clue. But if they were to make such a comparison, one is a symbol of love and trying to be accepted, and another is a symbol of hate and supremacy. There is no comparison.
@famousone
The rights that the states wanted was to own slaves and the reason bryce williams shot the two people is because he faced racism in the work place
Okay so because he faced some racism be decided to shoot people rather than just quit ? He could've made them realize they were racist rather than shoot people. That'd idiocy at best and mental illness at worst. Or vice versa idk but still there's no way that was justifiable.
And slavery isn't a good comparison at all to that situation.
The North was economically starving the south.
The vast majority of Confederates never owned slaves, and many higher ups amongst the rebels believed that slavery would die out on its own.
Slavery wasn't an issue until Lincoln wanted to prevent the European powers from aiding the south.
Also, the only good reason to kill someone is if they are certainly trying to do harm to an innocent. And that's only if law enforcement fails.

Double standards. So many double standards

Well first off, we can not legally ban either flag in the US, because on private property people can do stuff like that and in public people can do that. Where people draw the line is when the government is having those flags up. I personally like the idea of a vote to determine the fate of a flag if there is outrage over it. But again, we can not constitutionally ban either flag, nor any flag really

The only problem with that is that people are going to complain no matter what, you cant make everyone happy
@thesnoo it's not a double standard, with the confederate flag thousands of people were slaves and had terrible lives but the rainbow flag is a show of pride in who you are. Thousands of death vs two deaths that weren't even in the name of gay rights it was because his coworkers were racist, don't think you even have an argument
Guest, some people are taking the though of a flag ban wag too seriously. In reality it should just be that the flag shouldn't be waved in public places like government buildings, but people are going so far that Apple has ( I've been told ) a plan to get rid of any game that had the Confederate flag in it even civil war ones where it's historically accurate.
And people waving flags is literally not a problem. It holds no weight as no one who's complaining about it was a slaves. It's offensive, but you can't get rid of something for being offensive since it's subjective.

It's part of history guest like it or not. You can't just erase the parts of history you don't like.
Ah yes, I remember when the Pride flag was used as a rallying symbol to those who were fighting for the right to continue owning an entire race of people. Spot on comparison.
Or they were fighting for their own way of life in a war they actually could not avoid whether they chose to fight or not. Many southern blacks support the flag because they don't want to erase history, because doing so because of 'muh hurt feelings' would not only be wrong but also a step in the wrong direction.
Woah... this is an excerpt of what actually went on twitter:
"Q: when D/R shot blacks, blame was placed on flag. Manifesto by va shooter says he targeted whites because of race/sexual disc.
G. A. Hicks: I know & ppl are showing their bias towards me by thinking I said the Confederate flag shldhv come dwn...flags are just symbals [...] that kid did that because of his beliefs. The flag represents whatever. He could hv believed in a potatoes. Ban potatoes?
Q: Do you feel the same about the Confederate flag?
G. A. Hicks: absolutely. It's people's values that are causing havoc, not flags, or guns.
Q: so you agree the removing of the confederate flag solves nothing?
G. A. Hicks: it will not change how people feel nor will it change how people act. "

Who is the hypocrit here, and who changed a narrative?
They both presented flawed arguments, but he's a complete idiot if he thinks the pride flag- which has long been a symbol of love and equality- and the confederate flag- which has been used by several extremist hate groups, including the KKK, to justify and symbolize their hatred- are even remotely comparable.
the comments make this awesome post really sad. of course the media didn't give two craps about an entire church being murdered. and no one even gets the reference that so many idiots say "let's ban the confederate flag! that historical reference makes people bad!"
How is this post awesome? It assumes GA Hicks wanted the confederate flag banned for being a symbol, and would not want to have the rainbow flag banned for being a symbol of something else. The entire, uncut tweet however clearly and unambiguously proves this assumption wrong. How does this not get thru to some people?
