The island is rising up, probably due the either a volcano or shifting plates inthe crust.

Well it doesn't necessarily rise up it is volcanic and when it erupts lava solidifies and layers it. If you google earth the island now you'll see its changed more and there isn't any plant growth at the moment

I would think it doesn't become the island til it hardens. I would say the island built up but I wouldn't say it rose up
