1944, 18 year olds come back from war with serious psychological issues and are told to suck it up and wind up committing suicide from things they've seen, because no one understands the concept of PTSD.
2015, 18 year olds get psychological help if they need it the majority of the time due to advancements in psychology and psychiatry
Well, also 2015, they say they are just as good as professionals who spent at least a decade learning and then some practicing so you don't need to go make sure you have what you claim you're having
um i'm an adult in the real world and i have many safe places... its a realistic part of being an adult, the world is harsh and you need and deserve a safe place to recuperate.
My personal interpretation of this is not that we as an entire generation are each cowardly, but rather that the average person of our generation has become overly sensitive, self-centred and idle, and I would agree. A particularly vocal group of us is ridiculously obssessed with petty issues such as gender or sexuality. It is indeed pitiful.
I think it's more to do with the amount of people that recognise things such as mental illness as a serious issue. Back in the 40s it was more "man up", and that has had some serious side effects for that generation
Whilst it is true that there has been an increase in diagnoses of depression and anxiety (for example, according to YoungMinds, children between ages 15 and 16 diagnosed with depression nearly doubled between 1980s and 2000s), the fact remains they are in the minority. Between ages of 5 and 16, for example, only 10% of such children suffer from recognizable depression. These individuals are not the problem; it is the sane and mentally capable who claim to represent them with overly-zealous fervor, demanding that the majority of the world change to suit the minority. Political correctness, social justice, and all the drama the two entail. They play the victim and whine and complain - hence, you have this image here.

I think people forget that you had two choices in life if you had a mental illness. Suck it up, or live the rest of your life in a state hospital doing mundane activities until you died
This picture is saying that kids in this generation are whiny cock-twits who complain about everything. Kids that feel the need to be overtly sensitive and offended. Not all kids are like this but the majority are just wieners that need to develop a thick skin.
Just because you were safe as an 18 year old doesn't mean everyone is. May 18 year olds face extreme poverty and physical violence. Many of our young people are serving in the military putting their lives at risk.
On top of that, this is an incredibly unstable time for youth. In 1944, most teens were not worried about their parents divorcing, they lived in neighborhoods and had their church community. Studies show, suicide rates are much high amount those without community.
YES! Exactly the problem. Real dangers and mental health issues have been blown out of proportion by parents, teachers, and politicians and applied to everyone under the misguided notion that they know better than us and can keep us safe from everything. We learn from experience, and when kids don't experience anything unpleasant growing up they cannot handle it when it inevitably finds them later. When I was a kid if we cut our leg sliding into base playing baseball we rubbed some dirt on it and kept playing. If someone called us a name we returned the insult and went on with our lives. Obviously nothing applies to everyone, but this coddling has certainly damaged a lot of people in the last 2 or 3 generations.
every generation insists the current one is coddled and weak and its the ruin of civilization as we know it. its tiresome.

Look up some of those key words our generation is throwing around. Their popularity and interest just exploded compared to other generations. This nonsense is new and out of control. This is because of parents saying "you're special" for no apparent reason and participation trophies foe the same. Our generation is a self righteous one with special snowflake status, we are the ones that sue for being offended, that cry when we re faced with adversity because we aren't used to dealing with things on our own. And we continue to coddle each other with these praises like hey you're special/beautiful/great! And? If you don't deserve praise, you dont. If you did nothing you deserve no reward. If you're ugly, sorry you're ugly. You'll just have to deal with it because mr Rogers lied and you aren't unique/special for doing nothing.
The colored hair of the female liberal is a new mutation in the human genome; a case of aposematism, warning males of the same species that the female is toxic and to be avoided.
You know, I used to love this website. I couldn't remember why I don't come here anymore, so I came back. Then I saw this post and these comments.
Oh yeah, that's why.
