It sounds like she just came off a breakup and he wasn't being clear so she wasn't sure, and she wanted to find out what his intentions were. She asked a yes or no question, then told him exactly where he stood so she wasn't leading him on. So which is it? Are girls bitches when they string men along, or bitches when they turn them down with a clean break? The only reason this seems harsh is because he got awkward and started rambling, if he'd just said "yeah" it would look fine. Even he said he knows he was giving mixes signals, so what was the "correct" answer on her part?

I think most of us can agree that she could've let him down a little better. Maybe save the brutal shutdown for even another speech bubble. Or even something less patronizing in response to his heartfelt compliments. However, we don't know the context. Maybe he was being a real creep about it all and weird.

That's like asking someone if they want to be punched and then punching them regardless of the answer.
