But isn't pita bread hollow with an opening on one side (to put the hummus in)? Maybe it matters because of the relative position of the cut to the opening.
I guess it depends on the brand. The pita bread we buy is always already pre-cut on one side, meaning that it's hollow and there is the cut inside (which is done like along the side of the bread) done already, so you know where to fill it. That's what I meant, I don't know how to describe it better, I know it's hollow all the way around.
In the book series "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" there is a point that the gentleman builds a house for earth to put it into until earth feels better- since Humans put instructions on Tooth Pick boxes. I think this is the second example he needs.
