Even if this WERE true, two terrorists would team up: One with the bomb and one with the detonator, and they'd put the thing together after security.

I don't think the Xray machines are simply there to detect bombs though.

What if someone was forced to carry it though something like a drug mule

a terrorist could just slip bombs into people's pockets and kill many unsuspected. also, everyone is constitutionally guaranteed the right to a fair trial, which if they were dead, they couldn't get. and how would this technology even work, with the wide range of bombs and explosives that exist in the world? it fails to account for other weapons such as knives, etc. too.
