I actually like when customers do this. They usually stand out of the way while I'm getting the next person.

From a cashier's perspective, I like it when people take time out of their day to talk. It makes the job a little less boring.

Working as a cashier is so boring. It is the same cycle repeated over and over again. "Hi how are you...*scan some shit*... That'll be *insert total*...Have a great day" When someone is able to have a conversation with me, it 1. makes time go by faster and 2. it breaks the endless cycle of boringness

And it really just brightens your day a little to have a nice pleasant customer come through compared to some of the others that are just rude and hateful to cashiers for no reason.

I'm a manager in retail and I hate this, get customers in and out, we have shit that needs to get done. We have a cashier who tells everyone her life story, and ain't nobody got time for that.

I am that person unfortunately lol some cashiers are really friendly, and its nice having someone to talk to :)
