I say no. Just my own personal opinion. A ring in just a trinket. The marriage is the important part. You should have plenty of time later to buy her sparklies.
I'm sorry, but as a woman who has zero interest in gaming, I would still be upset if my boyfriend did this. I would much rather he keep his entertainment and not bother with an expensive ring.

I agree (though I am a gamer). You shouldn't have to spend $1000+ on a sparkly piece of metal with gemstones. Like, my grandpa and grandma hated how expensive rings were, so my grandpa made one out of a nickel, and my grandma absolutely loved it.
Totally agreed- and I think diamonds are stupid and overrated. I would cry if my boyfriend did this. There's no point! I'd rather get married with a ring from a sleazy pawn shop than have him lose this much.
Engagement rings are a scam by diamond companies who pay hollywood to perpetuate the standard for a man to buy expensive diamond rings in anticipation of marriage.

So basically that sacrifice everything for a 80-year old scam?
Ouch.
Actually the engagement ring started out as basically an insurance policy for the bride. It was considered acceptable for couples to...consumate their union once they were engaged. The expensive ring was basically the brides way of insuring the guy didn't back out after he'd gotten the goods. And if he did she got rock, in recompense for her damaged reputation and decreased value on the marriage market.
Ouch.
