This is actually my reaction to sadness. "Awwww, you look down. Here, have a book, I can get this one again."

It's probably an attempt to get the girl more tipsy and easy (not always but probably some of the time).

Also books cost more.

It was my status one time. And literally every boy said "cause they cost more"

Guys, the books may cost more, but your success rate goes up like 80%

If we lived in a world of smart, good people, this is what life would be like. I'd even settle for a classroom of them.

The drink invites the woman to spend more time with the man and increases the chance the man gets laid that evening. I don't know many women that would go home that day with a guy after he buys them a book.

Why does the male have to buy for the female? All this "man pays" mentality comes from when girls and women didn't have jobs or couldn't get one as lucrative as a man. So, here's one more way a woman thought of that a man should buy her stuff. I get the point about a book being better than a drink, but why is there the undercurrent of the man always buying stuff for a woman, especially one he just wants to meet and talk to for a minute?
