Yeah farmers themselves aren't poor either, if they're from developed countries. Farming isn't as easy as some people think, a lot of farmers go to college to learn about that stuff. Back in 2004, the average salary for a farmer in the US was $81,000, which isn't bad, considering that's average.
Cigarette manufacturers are rich, but both tobacco farmers and the manufactures labour force are poor as shit. The exact same way food brands and supermarkets make an ungodly amount of money.
This is simply because in base economic terms Alcohol and cigarettes are luxuries. People pay more for luxuries because they don't really need them but want them. If a loaf of bread cost as much as a carton of cigarettes people would lose their minds.
We can live without video games, yet video game manufacturers are rich and several video game players do so professionally. Some people even watch others play video games professionally.
