On mobile, I use YouTube Adaway xposed module to remove the ads. The bliss is real.

Adblock is the main reason for the ads becoming mandatory. But YouTube red is also coming out (not good for the smaller channels tho)

It does, but they have to make money somehow (if only people could have waited 5 seconds instead of using adblock)

nah dude screw that. It would be better if the ads were on the site and didn't interfere with the video I'm trying to watch

True, it would also need to buffer again But if it was at the beginning of the video then it was not that annoying.

Its because they started Youtube Red. You can get rid of them if you pay, i.e. Google says "go fuck yourself"
