What people don't understand is that there are actually people out there (and not the ones who made the whole "triggered" thing popular) who suffer from conditions like post traumatic stress, and have triggers for horrible memories, or connections between an action/phrase and a traumatic event. They're the ones who aren't yelling around about how "triggered" they are because of the affect the trigger had on them. For them, it's a reality, and they know it is hard to escape possible triggers. So the statement of this post isn't true that such things can be easily controlled and determined if someone is actually suffering from a condition such as post traumatic stress. But the posers who twisted it to their needs and made it popular? Maybe.
That's very true guest, thank you for pointing that out. I too have "triggers", but they're obscure. For instance, loud sounds bring me back to a very disturbing childhood memory and people tend to find my skiddishness funny, and will make loud sounds near me on purpose. I never say anything because how could I? I realize that it's funny to others, although to me it starts a heart race of about 160 beats per minute and a moment of terrible memory. I'm sharing this because if you know someone that has an odd quirk such as mine, perhaps think first what is the root of it, because it might just be a trigger that the person has disguised as a quirk.
Men and women who have been sexually abused tend not to be grown people, then, because rape jokes tend to trigger them.
...come on, this "nothing should trigger you if you're an adult" shit can not be a rule of thumb. People who have suffered in their lives deserve some respect and attention. This is about Tumblr attention whores (many of which are men, BTW), not about humankind as a whole.
"Happy Holidays!" *triggered* "OMFG!!1 It's 'Merry CHRISTMAS!' Say it right or get out of our country! You damn socialists sneaking over our borders, making everyone get ObamaCare abortions! You're going to be in so much trouble when my Wal-Mart scooter catches up with you! Trump 2016!"
no dude you got it backwards. People used to say merry Christmas but now people are told to say happy holidays because some people find it offensive. At least where I work they don't push it on us when we greet people
As an adult who is a rape victim I can assure you I have words that trigger me. Just because you can't look outside yourself doesn't mean other people don't have actual issues
