There are different types of Christians if different denominations who believe different things. And last time I checked, being Christian doesnt mean you don't believe in global warming. The ignoramus who posted this is obviously an atheist who is just trying to demean religion.
Perhaps, but you can't deny that a lot of christians (actually most people in general) are pretty hypocritical. I feel like I'm bragging when I say that I'm christian so I won't say it, but it's really annoying as skooshnuggets when hypocrites of any kind open their mouths. Especially religious ones.
There are a billion Catholics out there and im sure you only here from the same 100 loud mouth people who make the rest of us look bad. But the same can be said for Muslims and atheists and whites and blacks and everyone in between. Its not just one group who has these sort of people.
I'm not entirely sure if that was supposed to insult me, so I'll assume that you weren't. I'm actually not Catholic. I dislike Catholicism because it's too ritualistic. Now don't get me wrong, I understand why people believe in rituals and I respect that, but I believe that worship should be spontaneous and not scripted, like with the Divine Office, Rosary, and Mass, where it's identical in form everywhere.
Back on topic, it's also irritating when people blame religion for irrelevent things. I don't believe that 9/11 was purely on pro-Islam/anti-Christian feelings; terrorists are terrorists, they're just looking for a reason to hurt people and religion is just (to them) a convenient excuse because they can then get support from their people because they can claim that they're doing it for the betterment of their culture and the world. Likewise, Christianity had the Crusades which was more mass terrorism in the name of spreading the Word. What's even MORE irritating is when God is
blamed for car accidents and whatnot that's obviously a human's fault. IT'S NOT HIS FUCKING FAULT! IT'S THAT ASSNUGGET WHO WAS TEXTING, PUTTING ON MAKEUP, EATING A DOUGHNUT, DRINKING COFFEE, AND GIVING A BLOWJOB WHILE DRIVING THAT CAUSED IT. For the record, I'm a non-denominational Protestant.
First off I was not insulting you. Second, Catholicism doesn't have "rituals" per say. Certainly ceremonies such as weddings, baptisms, and confirmations. If you ment that it is repetitive then I shall say yes. But if you mean when the miracle of changing the bread and wine to the body and blood is a ritual, I cant really disprove you but we are just following the story of the Last Supper every mass. Our worship isn't really "scripted". Yea we have specific readings every mass but that's not really our worship. I worship through silent prayer and I celebrate mass. We have many different forms of worship. And for the record I never blamed religion or God for anything. And the Catholics weren't the only group involved in the crusades and I would blame the king of the country that escapes me for the Catholics start of the crusades. Kind of like you cant blame some of the German people for Hitler's assault on the world.
Were crusades Catholic? I was under the impression that they were some large Protestant group...oh well...they were Christian.
You might be right in that Catholicism isn't 'ritualistic'. I might have used too strong of a word. Repetitive does seem better; I go to a Catholic high school and we have mass once a month (more or less). However, I can say that every mass is 'scripted' because my theology teacher says that every church celebrates the same mass on the same day because there's some sort of calendar saying what days to do what mass. Every mass has the same form to maintain the ...I hesitate to use the word 'illusion' but I'm at a loss for words right now (studying too much is bad for the brain)...maintain the illusion that the entire church is praying together.
However, we digress. Anyhow, I thought you were (trying to) insult me because I thought you were insinuating that I was one of them loudmouth hypocrite Catholics.
Lol we are on the internet we are the farthest thing away from being loud mouthed. It is true that every parish celebrates the same mass and the same readings every week because we are all part of one big church. We are taught as young kids that the people themselves are the church. it may seem like its scripted but there are different homilies and different messages given by different priests. Yes the readings are scripted but isn't that how every religion celebrates their faith?
I only know of non-denominational Protestant which is a protestant who doesn't follow any established customs. In other words, I do what I want when I want as long as I love Jesus, my fellow humans, and have a general respect for people. Unless they prove to me that they aren't worthy of respect. (un)Fortunately, I haven't met anyone like that yet.
I gotchya. Thats pretty much what the new pope is leaning towards. Respect to all people. I was taught by my parents, who are catholic, to respect any one anyway. So the Catholic church is becoming more accepting of people like gays and lesbians but I have a really good friend whose sister is a lesbian so that never really bothered me. But I must say thus is the first conversation of many I've had on this website where I didnt want to reach through the screen and slap the person on the other end lol. You're cool
Looking back on this comment thread...
I'm so embarrassed at my excessive swearing.
I also have much more respect (and a bit more understanding) for the Catholic traditions because of school.
Lol I feel childish trying to lecture someone about Catholicism when not qualified to do so. I can't believe that was over a year ago already. Crazy stuff.
There is literally nothing in the Bible that contradicts science in any form sort or way.
You have to remember that the world of the authors was pretty small; the "entire world" would have just been their little area of inhabitance plus a bit farther. You also have to remember that the language back then was very symbolic; don't cut off your hand if it does something wrong (like Jesus says to do) for example.
That's so stupid. You pretty much equated old white male conservatives to Christians, which is not the case. The problem is people (not just christians but atheists, Muslims, Hindu's ECT.) believing things without investigating themselves.
