I think it also hurts less when you fall because your ankles don't get torqued in weird ways. They stay pretty regular relative to your legs and it's your waist that's doing most of the twisting.
When you first learn skiing, you learn two basic positions to angle your feet. Parallel is "french fry" which you're really never supposed to NOT do. In the beginning, this is how you gain speed. "Pizza" is angling the tips of your skis together like this /\ to make a plow shape and act as your brake. As you advance, you're not supposed to pizza because it puts undue pressure on something and something. You brake and control by turning your french fries side to side; your speed control comes from not barreling downhill but by moving side to side. Slowing the transition of potential to kinetic energy.
also they teach the pizza/snowplough thing first because beginners tend to bomb down the hill with out turning to control speed and it allows you to learn how to use use the edges to control your speed which is important to know if ypu want to get good at skiing
I was snowboarding down a trail early in the morning once, no one was on it I was the first person, and this old guy came up behind me pushed me over then went down to the turn to wait for his kid. I like skiers and I respect them but can someone please explain why some do this?
everything happens for a reason
sometimes the reason is that someone's stupid
or an asshole
or just wasn't thinking
or maybe they barreled into you accidentally
It's probably because a lot of skiers resent beginner snowboarders who slid down hills on their edges and scrap the snow off the ice and then they lump all snow boarders into that category. Also that guy is probably just an asshole..
I just fall on my face. I don't bother with my hands.
What the heck is this post about?!
