ibuildurcharacter, I'm not sure if they give bad food. Like, a "best before" date typically means you can still eat it after the date it just won't be as good. A "use by" date means it must be used by that day. Also, my friend works at a grocery store and they throw away seasonal products all the time. For example, although some Christmas cookies weren't expired, it was after Christmas, so the employees took them home.
The hotel is used to work donated all their unused food to a homeless shelter at the end of the day...until they realized that driving the food to the shelter was too much of an insurance risk.
I did that once. It was a looooong time ago.
I was benevolant for the politic refugees with the church, and each wednesday and saturday, they went to the hypermarket to have the unsold food that were near the end date (i did had the unsold beers, i was part of a metal music association -yeah, the church was open-mind enough to accept me- so i could have all the beers, a loooot usually).
It was loooooong before the law was voted.
It is just that some supermarket allowed that without any permission, they just did give to the associations.
Then after it was made a law. Thanks to the church.
