My Mother still has a dress her mom made her and the little suit she made for my mom's twin. Both made from flour bags. My grandmother was so good at sewing that when my mom tore a hole in the dress she took a patch of fabric it matched it perfectly with the hole. If you don't know it's there you'll never find it. And that was alittle bit after ww2

Remember when products came in reusable packaging.... okay me neither, but I still have tins and such from the 70s (before my time) that I use for storage

It wasn't poor women. Rationing applied to fabrics too.
