He's definitely overweight but there are some really massive housecats around. Some reach 30 pounds healthily

maine coons should be less than 25lbs for males, so a 40lb cat with clearly no definition in its waist is just waiting for a heart attack among numerous other health issues.

Coon Cats can get up to 35 lbs. easy and 4 ft. long.
