6'8" huh? That's one huge asshole!
Seriously, anything and anyone out of the ordinary WILL receive comments. Get used to it; suck it up; don't be a fucking twat about it.
No one, but people with bad attitudes annoy me. If you are taller than "normal" people, people are going to comment; it's just human nature. Sure it may get old, but that's just life. Joe Random has no clue how old it gets and probably doesn't mean anything by any comments. Getting pissy with someone who means no harm is not cool, and going to the trouble of printing rude cards is passive-aggressive and juvenile.
Wow. Someone getting annoyed at someone getting annoyed at getting the same dumbass comments all the time is commenting his ass off about it.
I love the internet sometimes.
Think of it like this.
Tall guys are similar to attractive girls who have to listen to the same shitty, unimaginative comments from the same braindead douchebags all the time. After awhile, it gets old, and once in awhile you might be in a bad mood about something else entirely and not have your speech filter turned all the way to up.
Moral of the story is, don't go around announcing to people how pretty, tall, etc they are. Chances are they are already aware.
I understand that, and don't blame an individual for getting tired of hearing comments/questions. The thing is, it's human nature to ask a tall person how the weather is up there. That does not make the human who asked a brain dead douchebag, just a normal human being.
Think of it like this. I have worked in some form of retail for nearly twenty years and have to deal with the same idiots with the same questions and the same arguments that they know more about whatever I'm trying to help them with than I do every day. I realize there are assholes out there, and also well-meaning people who just don't know anything, and I take a breath and treat them like people instead of telling them how stupid they are.
I can count on my hands how many times I've had someone joke "how's the weather up there?".
I've lost count of the number of times I've had someone plainly point out that I'm tall.
I can forgive the first one, especially as it's usually said in a way where you know the other person realizes it's about a 1 on the hilarity scale.
Gets old, sure. But it's human nature. It will always happen. Most people with any social skills probably realize an atypically short person may be sensitive about their stature, but most people do not think being tall is a burden. If one could be sure that everyone realizes they're being an unfunny pain in the ass by commenting on someone's height by all means, call them on it. But I doubt they do, and are probably nice people who don't necessarily deserve to get an attitude they never saw coming.
Where are we heading as a society?
If you've ever seen Demolition Man with Sylvester Stallone; "Mellow greetings John Doe. I formally convey my presence."
Will this be the extent of social communication allowed for fear of offending someone about something we could never anticipate?
I'd be happy with people just thinking before they speak.
Everyone, especially nowadays, seems more concerned with people acknowledging them than with talking about anything worth hearing.
My family wants me to play basketball
