There's also the bonus of survival of the fittest. People don't breed horses for hard hooves (unless they're a working breed like stock horses). If they're built to be pretty or fast you can bet that the actual good structure of the horse isn't bred for. Working animals and animals raised for meat are (in 99% of cases) the healthiest animals you will find. Animals bred for their looks or fashion are not healthy.

You have no idea how much it hurts. Also, the bones get deforested so it hurts even more
