I like that one even more than "kaputtreparieren" (meaning to repair something until its broken beyond recognition). The german language is full of wonders.

I'm German and I have only heard it as "Verschlimmbesserung" or as the verb form "verschlimmbessern". Often in school context when you get panicky at the end of an exam and start to change correct answers for wrong ones ;-)
