You also not supposed to realease pets into the wild because it can introduce a non indegenous species to the environment, which in turn can have important negative impacts.
So why did she ask him to look after it then? Why make a poor child worry like that?

When my Mom and Dad were only boyfriend and girlfriend, my Dad asked my Mom to take care of his beloved Pepe, a fish, while he was gone on vacation. She was only supposed to take care of Pepe for 3 days. My Mom placed his fish bowl right next to the radio. Little did my Mom know, she blasted the volume on the radio, and the vibrations and strong sound waves eventually killed Pepe. Only until a few years ago, my Dad got another fish named Pepe 2. Pepe 2 died of age, but at least Pepe and Pepe 2 will always be remembered in our hearts.
(And yes, I know the name sounds a bit made-up but that is acually what my Dad called his fish.)

I was just saying lol, because I know there is a popular meme involving a frog named Pepe
I knew a frog named Pepe. He used to work with a lionfish named Lion-O - they were contract killers. No one ever suspected them. To this day, I am the only living person to reveal this, and >ack!<
