See where you are coming from, but also think it's very difficult to tell anyone how to raise their kids. Imagine telling this girls parents that essentially, she is abused, the impact on those parents AND the girl could be a lot more detrimental than being overweight.

Okay. So yes this is an entirely serious issue. However. Many obese children are obese due to the affordability of certain foods. Their parents typically work more than one job and can rarely supervise what the child eats, and even with multiple jobs and incomes and foodstamps, can only afford the unhealthy food that will feed a whole family instead of paying much much more for healthy foods. So in certain situations I can agree, while in others I feel that implementing a better healthy foods system is the answer instead of taking children away.

I was a little overweight when I was a child, but it was mainly caused by a slow metabolism, other small health problems, and severe bullying (mostly the effects of that). It had nothing to do with my family.

You probably shouldn't be so judgemental. My little brother is quite a bit overweight for his age because he has a heart condition that makes it dangerous for him to work out. He had open heart surgery when he was 12 years old and since his heart didn't start on it's own he had to have a pacemaker and defibrillator put in. The only thing he can do is light exercises, which he does. Walks a couple miles a day for several days a week, he also diets because he is pretty self conscious at 14 years old, but even with strict diets and light exercises, he stil loses hardly any weight. Sometimes it really isn't the childs or parents fault.

well it is the childs choice only thing a parent can do is help them make informed choices its also unfair to criticise the parents when you know nothing of there socioeconomic background.

Doesn't really matter if she is mentally challenged, anyone can lose weight. Or just don't let them get that big in the first place.

This should not be classified as child abuse. That is for parents who beat and assault their children. It should be classified as child neglect.

Imagine the "oh mooooooooommmmmm" and eyeroll,when told to get off the phone/iPad/co,puter/TV and go,out to play. It'd be the same whining and excuses as put forth by today's teens when asked to do a chore or help out in some way.

Ohio took a child from his parents a few years ago for this reason. I did not support that decision. We are progressing toward a socialized medical system somewhat akin to Canada's. Many changes would need to be mandated to cut costs. We will put the obese in camps to get healthy. We will round up extreme athletes and sedate them. We will need to criminalize tobacco. All motor vehicles will be governed to 65mph on the freeway and 20 in cities. Alcohol, mayonnaise, chicken fried anything and cheese will need to be outlawed. People with genetic diseases will need to be sterilized. Three strikes and you're out of rehab and become an organ donor. Come on people, this is how a responsible society will need to operate. The government is not your parents and should not be controlling every aspect of your life.
