It's true. Anssi Vanjoki got a $103,000 speeding ticket for riding his bike at 75 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

Switzerland does the same thing. In theory it sounds like a good idea but what ends up happening is lower income people have such low fines for speeding that they don't care.

How is it? "Your fine is $60" has a huge impact on someone who is already nearly broke, but someone paid $40K a month does not care. "Your fine is 8% of your monthly income" has quite the same impact on everybody, preventing rich people from violating laws without a second thought AND poor people from getting in huge debt over a payday loan for a fine.

People who are paid little money won't care and will speed all the time, most people driving are not billionaires. All this would do is raise the amount of people who speed which is pointless
