You know, I can state shit from Buko, like :
"It's not pretty." Charles Bukowski
and people will be like "what an empty shit, this Bukowski was barely a writer, let alone a poet", but then you discover that this sentence is the last verse of "I Met A Genius", and this very simple and short poem is one of the deepest shits you will read in your whole life :)
My point is: This sentence was taken out of context. It may or may not have been a great metaphor about philosophical shit. Not everything Bukowski wrote is drunken rant and sub-Tumblr philosofarts.

He was great writer, I'm a fan of his work and I found this funny. Sorry if you didnt.
I found this funny too even though i can appreciate that this sentence wasn't meant to be taken literally and it's more saying that people can learn that their fears are not always worth fearing
This is the full poem but, in context:
people run from rain but
sit
in bathtubs full of
water.
it is fairly dismal to know that
millions of people are worried about
the hydrogen bomb
yet
they are already
dead.

I was the only one who didn't hide, people looked at me like a crazy person.
