2. Just because it's the way people talked 60 years ago doesn't make it acceptable today, even if it's relevant to the subject matter. Example: Just because you're talking about the civil war era doesn't mean you can refer to all black people with the N word.

3. Even if there are equally if not more racist terms thrown around, it's not an excuse to use a lesser (but still racist term).

Yeah, as a Japanese person, I can tell you that the treatment of us in WW 2 and how "Japs" was used as a slur against us made it pretty racist. :/

Seriously the treatment of Japan in WW2, do the words Death March ring any bells. Japan was the aggressors in the war, the one that was 70 years ago. Personally I've never heard anything about it being a slur. Of course the only people I've ever heard use it were in their 70s or 80s and they care what they say.

This is a bit of a pickle. Right now there are Japanese people contributing to medical and technological advances worldwide. Right now there are Japanese people manufacturing decent cars and electronics. Right now there are Japanese people wearing hello kitty gear. Right now there are Japanese people wondering what the hell I'm going on about. 72 years ago a bunch of Japs were trying to kill my grandpappy. Based on the photographs above there was apparently some japs trying to kill some Dutchmen. The imperialistic axis pig soldiers deserve no consideration. The Japanese citizens of today are worthy of respect.

You don't just get to pick and choose like that. Just because at one point in history we were at war with them that isn't a free pass to use whatever racist slurs you please.

"Back then" it wasn't even right. So how can you justify your racism by saying that they used to use the term, when you've blatantly just used it in your title?
