they had make-up but it wasn't as extent as it is now. the concealer wasn't as good, Audrey Hepburn in particular didn't wear foundation because she naturally had beautiful skin but it was mostly eye liner, eye shadows and mascara (although there is a very different mascara wand back then)

There may not have been photoshop, but images were still edited to perfect flaws, and there was makeup, but not to the extent we have now
