A lot of studies show that people who are newly rich experience a rush of happiness but this declines over the next couple years or so. Most of those studies say that your happiness depends on what you use the money for, if you use it all on yourself then the happiness tends to decline but if you use it to help others then it will stay.
I was born into a pretty affluent family, and I disagree with this. It's most likely because I'm use to it, as guydude said, your happiness will probably fade unless you do something meaningful.

I feel like the financial security helps a lot with money making people happy. Hard to be happy when you don't know which utility you're gonna have to give up for the month.
