I was on board until right at the end - 80 years doesn't sound like all that long. I could have sworn there are timber buildings in Japan that are ten times that old..

Well, when some planks start to decay, you get them replaced. Simple maintenance.

Out of curiosity, looking for someone who knows a decent amount about this - is this something that anyone can DIY pretty easily, or is this something that requires a lot of expertise to do?
