Colonialism was kind of needed to support the growing population, and is a story of survival of the fittest.
The ways the settlers expanded were in many ways cruel , but the alternative was starving. And while it certainly wasn't a do or die thing in the moment, the lack of land for growing my food has caused mass starvation before, take the Great Famine of 1324 for example. The lands taken over are now developed today, and they would almost certainly would have.

Wow a great wall of westerners telling me how colonialism was good. Very nice. Did you hear of the so called legitimate that took the place of slave trade? Do you know of the giant ripoffs that took place? How 100s of raw materials were bought for the price of one to fuel your industries? How they brought condemned goods here to sell at exorbitant prices? Nice.
No reason to hold us responsible for crimes committed before our great grandfathers were born.
Especially since many of our ancestors already fought to make things better.
The 'Sins of the father' mentality has never done anyone any good.
I never blamed anyone. For all I know the guest might be chinese. But don't just tell me colonialism was good. Because colonialism was many things, but good is not one of them.
The Chinese were victims of colonialism, but that colonialism is a huge part in China's position as a world power. You guys rush to defend the post comparing colonialism to the Holocaust. Maybe learn about history before posting about it.
Not to quibble or anything, but the holocaust was not legal. Many of the horrific abuses, like the ghettos, were legal under German law at the time, but the genocide was not.

It's not genocide if the law doesn't see them as people
There were no laws against genocide at the time. Not internationally, nor in Germany.
They were punished for breaking laws that didn't exist when the crime was committed.
Personally, I'd argue that we shouldn't need laws about some things.
What are you going to say next? That the moon landing was faked and 9/11 wasn't an inside job? That gay jews are actually running the government right now?

And even if it weren't, it happened too long ago for us to do anything to mitigate the negative effects.

Also, as long as we're making a list, we can add abortion and affirmative action to the list of legal things.

Good to know.
