What about questionable circumstances, such as when one party lies about their age, or when someone cries 'rape' as a result of regret or embarrassment?
The world ain't as black and white as it should be.
I'm talking about drunken intercourse, it's hardly uncommon for one party to claim rape, even if everyone involved was inebriated at the time.
As for age, teenagers have lied about their age to have sex. Any sex with someone under the age of consent is legally considered rape. Regardless of the circumstances. How is that okay?
Ok, say a girl is with her boyfriend and is drinking and passes out and he has sex with her? Do you call that rape @famousone?
I put myself in a bad situation, I thought I was safe. It was my boyfriend, we'd never discussed sex at anytime. I wasn't a drinker so when I did drink it knocked me on my ass. I woke up with him having sex with me, I got scared tried to push him off and passed back out. Not even my best friend believed me, so I didn't tell anyone else. So is that my fault? Is that what you're saying?
Don't put words in my mouth.
I'm saying that sometimes the 'victim' isn't, and that sometimes neither party shoulders sole responsibility.
I've got freinds and cousins who've been screwed over by the law. Labled as criminals because she lied, or because they were a drunk and horny teen who ended up with another drunk and horny teen.
As easy as it would be to be a moral absolutionist, life ain't that simple.
actually @skittles, if someone has sex with you while you're passed out or heavily intoxicated then technically it is rape because you couldn't give proper consent or was in no condition to give consent.
^this - plus look at it this way: you're not fucking up your life by fucking the wrong girl but by getting so drunk you don't know the fuck you're doing. Don't do either of these - problem solved.
I wasn't saying that's what I believe, and I wasn't trying to put words in anyone's mouth, @famousone I was genuinely asking you because I wanted to make sure exactly what you were saying.
In your case?
I'll say that you put yourself in a bad position, but your boyfriend was awake and you weren't, so regardless of how drunk he was, that was rape.
I was just trying to see what exactly you were trying to say. A lot of people on here are just sexist ass holes. I know it was rape, I don't blame myself anymore. I just couldn't figure out if you were blaming real rape victims or not. I do agree with you that if a girl says she's been raped and it wasn't rape (in my opinion) she should go to jail. Because of women who lie, other women who are telling the truth have to deal with people doubting their story. They piss me off as much as a rapist. If you're someone who has been assaulted and then no one believes you it hurts just as much as the assault it seems.
This whole, "just take them at their word" thing is bullshit. Rape is a very serious crime, and if guilty rapists should be put away for life, but rape allegations deserve even stricter investigation for that very reason.
I think falsely accusing someone should have strict consequences, because just the allegations ruin people's lives. You can see men that have been proven innocent and they still have lost so much in the process and it's so terribly unfair.
Skittles, if I may, while your situation is horrible, and certainly constitutes rape, can I at least put forward the idea that he is miles away from being some horrible sexual predator that hunts women. You were unconscious, and therefore could not consent, and so that is rape, but should he get the same punishment as some guy who rufies a girl, or simply overpowers some girl in an alleyway? I'm not trying to be accusatory, or trying to belittle your situation, I'm legitimately asking your opinion, because I don't think it's as cut and dried as 'rape is rape'
Well the term "rape is rape" is used to define non concent as rape no matter what, so someone's not making any excuse to violate another person. When you start talking about rapists that in a court of law are found guilty, then the circumstances surrounding their charges are going to matter in determination of the sentence. Is that what you're trying to ask me?
it's like intelligence is a disease to people like him. I don't have to prove where I skew politically to you, guest. you can't even make an account; you're not worth my time.
this banana thanks you, @chakun. Even if we don't always see eye to eye. I appreciate that.
Guest, honestly, I don't care. You can't even bother making an account; should I bother giving a shit?
If we start qualifying who gets to make decisions, limited only to those with personal experiences with the direct subject matter, then this man should not be making military decisions. Women should not be involved in decisions having been to do with OSHA, since 95% of workplace deaths are men. Imagine the outrage if he said this about women, in any scenario. This is nothing more than pandering to women.
Pandering to women? He never said the people who make the decision should be rape victims, the implication was that there should be more women included in the decision making as it is way more likely to affect them!
Yes, it's pandering to women. Implying that women are affected more by healthcare decisions because of rape is ignoring the fact that men are rape victims as well. By omitting those victims, by definition, he is pandering to women.

Do you honestly assume our next choices are going to do anything better?
both of the two candidates are subpar.
one less so than the other.
