No, intelligence in animals is measured by how inventive they are when it comes to problems and remembering stuff. But we value obedience, just as we value that in students, sadly.
You mean *blind* obedience, because most teachers can't be fookin' bothered to *earn* the respect of students and implicitly become a positive contribution to someone's life.

My issue with that statement is that it goes the other way as well. Generation "Z" (those currently 19 and younger) has the idea that others must earn their respect. However, they expect respect without proof that they deserve it. This isn't my theory, but it is what some sociologist have concluded and I have yet to run into evidence to the contrary.
