Classic strawman: take some tumblr idiots and pretend they "define racism" now.

It can't be a strawman if there isn't an initial argument to strawman against.

Bullshit: the starting argument is that racism does exist. People "argue" against that by stating that "people" define racism as disagreement with "some sort of a minority". W§hich is a strawman, cause hardly anyone does that.

There is no indication that OP is arguing against the existence of racism, ergo there is no indication of a strawman.

That's why I put "argue" in quotation marks.

Nope. European time here, on my commute, at my desk now. Actually you seem to be the one commenting this at 3 am.

would it really kill you to address a minority as a person of colour and not box them all up in one category like they're another species

Well to be fair if you call every person of color a person of color, you are still boxing them up in one category. And in America, White people make up about 65-70% so everyone else is technically a minority

Also, why would I use "person of color" to describe a light skinned Cuban or my Iraqi coworker, even though both are minorities.

So I took this course on race, science, and society because it was required. The definition of racism, as told to me by a teacher, is a system of structuring opportunity and assigning value based on society's interpretation of one's characteristics.

Since words now hurt people, does that mean sticks and stones no longer break bones? If so, can we use them?

Only sticks smaller in diameter than your thumb.
