Eff this clown (assuming this quote is real). For the record im not religious, i 100% agree with evolution, and more logical/scientific than most. That being said, there are plenty of scientists, engineers, and great community contributors who are very religious. The two are NOT mutually exclusive. And shame on him for shaming other people who happen to have a different beliefe than him.

He didn't mention religion, just people that deny facts. Like saying evolution isn't real.
Barney, Thanks for pointing that out! Im soooo embarrassed :/ Its to bad one typo negates an entire statement.... When you feel up to making an independent thought or two feel free to join the adult conversation.
German, he didnt have to say the word 'evolution'. Theres not to many disbelievers of evolution who's beliefes dont originate from religion.
Yes barney, im aware of the double negative.
No, im hating on someone who YOU believe is one of the most brilliant people. Others believe he is a condisending, non-understanding asshole who puts down people who dont believe what he believes.
No, as far as i can tell Hawking understands that there are a lot of people in this world. And that theres a pretty good chance there will be more than one opinion about the history of man. And that having an opinion that conflicts with your own is no reason to make suggestions about how other parents should raise their kids.
From what I've read you're all a bunch of idiots. So what if he was indirectly talking about religion? Don't get your panties so tightly wound up on the possibilities of what may or may not be a hidden meaning. Just take it at face value. I personally think Nye and Hawking are superior in intellect but you should never base your own beliefs on top of someone else's, Barney.
When I raise my children, they can learn whatever they want. I'm a Christian, but there is no reason to force my children to believe in something if they don't want to. If they're like "well actually I'm trying out this new evolution thing" then I'd be like "you still wanna go to church?" and they'd be like "nah" and I'd be like "cool, see ya at 12."
No, do not attach yourself to my argument. I'm not on anybody's side (because I have not read the conversation). The way my mother has taught me is that if I am a gay/bisexual/asexual/transgendered/nonbinary/ genderfluid and/or Christian/Buddhist/atheist/Catholic/agnostic, then she and my family will still love me, and that's all I care about. With my previous comment in mind, please note that I do believe in evolution, but just that God caused it and in turn created humans. Both evolution and religion seem like sound theories that can hold their own weight, and so I believe in both of them equally.

Hey, I went to sleep, I'm back. I was just saying that he didn't mention religion, just people who deny facts that have been proven. And I would think he's not implying all religion is stupid, just the people who choose to deny the facts proven because of their own religion. But, I don't care if you believe facts or not. It's not my business what you believe in, as long as you don't try push it onto others.
I believe in God and the bible, and I have experienced no problems becoming a successful mechanical engineer in the energy sector. Bill is the one demonstrating closed mindedness and discrimination, not the Christians I know and that he seems to resent. He talks like man made science is God and that there should be absolute submission to its doctrine...even despite the countless fallacies and disproven theories of scientific "law" throughout mankind's history.
I totally agree with you guest.
To all others, mentioning evolution usually brings up the creation vs evolution debate to mind. One can be a great scientist, and not believe in evolution.

Evolution: is it fact? Yes and no. First off, there are 6 types of evolution:
"Cosmic evolution: the origin of time, space, and matter from nothing in the “big bang”
Chemical evolution: all elements “evolved” from hydrogen
Stellar evolution: stars and planets formed from gas clouds
Organic evolution: life begins from inanimate matter
Macro-evolution: animals and plants change from one type into another
Micro-evolution: variations form within the “kind”" http://creationtoday.org/six-meanings-of-evolution/
What is fact is that we can use the scientific method to prove micro-evolution, which is one species turning into another but overall staying the same type of animal. For example, chihuauas and great danes are very different, but are still dogs. What is not fact are the other 5 types of evolution, which cannot be tested using the scientific method. They are not directly observable, testable, repeatable or predictable within our lifetime.
. Agree 100%. It's funny that Bill Nye says that denying evolution is inconsistent with what we've observed even though we have never observed any species changing into another species, only refinements within a species.
