When people tell me it's pronounced "jif" GIF

Extremely unpopular way of saying it: I just say each letter, G I F

If you're going by the initials (Graphics Interchange Format,) you'd be correct because graphics has a hard 'g;' on the other hand, the creator of the gif calls it a "jif."
