Because it's an extremely exhausting antidepressant and not everyone has an hour to excercise every day.

Exactly. People with depression can't even get out of bed sometimes, so it wouldn't be used as much anyway.

When you aren't even motivated to get out of bed, it's near impossible to be motivated to exercise. Healthy foods are more expensive and don't last as long as other foods, so a person suffering from anxiety has to.put themselves in more social situations if they wish to diet better, which isn't as easy as people like to think. Not to mention both of these things are typically addressed in any type of setting where anything is being prescribed. The patient is informed of the benefits and encouraged to do as much as they can. Some are simply lazy. Others simply can't do as much as everyone else.

I'll be the first to admit, exercise does amazing things for depression. Suffering from chronic depression myself, I know tha putting Pandora on and taking a walk helps put a muzzle on the lion which is depression, but you're still trapped in a cage with a fucking lion. All the while telling the world you're fine. We're not okay.

It does do wonders, once you get in the habit of doing it. We aren't okay. But even little things like a walk make a difference. I'm glad you can manage at least that :) it doesn't have to be an hour of intense exercise, and after a walk you get to feel good about yourself and enjoy the fresh air.

If you live in a state where the temperature regularly tops 100, buy a treadmill/elliptical/other cardio machine. Also helps if you're like me and hate to go outside after getting home from work because there are *people* outdoors.

Because food is easy and exercise is hard.

I can definitely attest to this. Going out for a run always gives me an incredible amount of clarity.

I wouldn't say exercise is the MOST underused anti depressant. 8 to 10 percent of Americans are on anti depressants and 18 to 23 percent of Americans meet the CDC's recommended amount of exercise....though that is a bit sad in itself
