This post may have a few Americans raging in the comment section, but I, for one, think there is a strong correlation between not giving guns to anyone and having low gun mortality ^^
You may think so, but you are quite wrong. There have been several studies done, as well as real world evidence in states and cities that have loosened their gun restrictions. When law-abiding citizens have guns, the violent crime rate goes down.
You cannot prevent criminals from committing crimes by making something illegal. But you can prevent crimes against persons by giving the potential victims tge means to defend themselves.
Check out "More guns, less crime" by John Lott.
Gun crime =/= all crime. Both stats have fallen in BOTH countries (IIRC), however violent crime has decreased more/or faster in the US than Britain and Australia. Granted it can be difficult to compare "violent crime" between countries simply because different countries define it differently.
In regards to australia, Try banning guns while being attached to south america and see how easy it is to keep them out. (EG: Cocaine and other various already illegal things) It's alot easier to restrict the black market when you're an island, mate.
I am sorry xdmaniac but blaming south america for your crimes,murder/ rate Is very ugly american of you. Everyone is to blame, except you. Take responsability for your action. Having limited acess to guns have been prove to low the rate of gun mortality. Its time to live in this century, we aren't cowboys anymore.
Ps: If the consumption rate of drugs in the American citizens were low, you wouldn't have the drug problem. Low demand/ no funny business.

Well, the vast majority of Americans don't do drugs, so in that sense the demand is already low. However, since we have such a high population, even a small percentage equals a large number of people. "Cowboys" aren't the problem. Gangs and inner city violence are to blame. Chicago has had 517 people shot and killed this year. An additional 2808 shot and wounded. 574 total homicides. They're going to break 600 total homicides before this month ends. They have some of the strictest gun laws in America.
When those laws were passed, the line was that these laws would make the people of Chicago safer. They didn't. Since they didn't do what they were supposed to, they're moving heaven and earth to repeal those laws.... Oh wait, they're claiming they don't have enough gun control laws, and that's the reason the crime is so high. Doesn't help that their police are overworked and have one of the lowest homicide clearance rates in the country. Or the current Federal gun laws not being enforced
@audichan our drugs are mostly coming from South America. Our drug gangs are mostly coming from South America. Our drug/gang related violence is mostly coming from South America. Try to learn something before yapping about "ugly Americans".
I literally blamed none of those on South America, but thanks for not actually reading my post. I indicated that with America not being an island, you can easily sneak guns (like they already do drugs) over the border because you don't have to boat them a shit ton of miles. THUS, banning guns would do very little here because as soon as they were banned South American cartels would be more than happy to share. Now, maybe next time you'll actually read my post instead of searching for shit to talk about Americans, matey.
Different country; different culture; different history.
Only the law-abiding abide by laws. Criminals do not acquire their guns through legal channels, so the only people prevented from getting guns are those who will not commit a crime with them. As it is in America more people are killed with knives, hammers, or poison than guns, so...

and if you get rid of the 7 biggest cities in America that have gun bans, democrat run, we'd have less gun deaths than Sweden...
I live in America, and I agree with this. I am sure that every American in this comment section against this would still be allowed a gun, right? So then where is the harm, if this actually works? And if they wouldn't be allowed a gun in Sweden, then why should they have one in America? Please answer.
