It's a joke. I put a smiley face next to it so you would realize it was a joke. And you said it's pronounced goff, which does sound like off.

There is no sound in English that lets you pronounce Van Gogh's name correctly, and it definitely does not sound like "van go". Sigh.

I live in the town where he went to school. It gets on my nerves when I hear Van Go. At least say Van Gog. That's close enough.
