I say mehm when I actually say the word aloud, which has only happened about four times ever so I don't think the pronunciation really matters.

Meme has been a word for longer than America has been a country. Probably not gonna change it now.

Well, it can at least be traced back to the '70s, but it's origins go way back to ancient greece or something, so yeah...it's been around for a while.
