If he has keys he can cut the package grab the item out and then crush the box

It depends on the size and weight of the item. It could be awkward/impossible to lift through the bars and at that angle

The weight of the box isn't the problem, he's currently inside and can't get out to get to the box.

That's what I was wondering. Maybe it's a small home and doesn't have two doors and the windows are too small or too far off the ground.
