Now you have to pay hundreds of dollars to see artists who make money for no reason
They don't write the songs, they don't play the instruments, they don't design the outfits or choreography, and they cant even sing well without autotune where they sound the same as the average person
Tbh that's why I like singers who started on Broadway cause they have to be good enough to do multiple shows a week as a career rather than just a sales boost
Exactly. Plus, there is absolutely no reason that there may be less talented artists now compared to any other period in the last centuries (in proportion to the population, of course), but talented people now have the means to record and produce their art at home, including people who do not play any "real" instrument but make incredibly sophisticated electronic music. There are incredible pieces of Art in the music of every century since, I'd say, the XVth (don't know anything about music before the 1450's), and if you think nothing great is released nowadays, you should search more :)

Or, and I know this may be totally retarded, maybe there has always been shitty music and the only groups remembered from the past are the good ones. Give it twenty years and only the standout songs of this decade will be remembered.
Oh, there absolutely is. Not sure how me saying "video killed the radio star" Was translated into "there is no good music left anywhere". But the current music that is popular and will be remembered is often not the music that I consider the best quality or the most innovative and the artists that will be remembered are in many cases not the most musically talented. With the invention of music videos, we added a whole new element to music which often rewards looks, acting ability, money, etc. That's all I was saying.

i fell for this too. funsubstance has a bad system when it comes to replies. it looks like it was a reply to you due to the indent, but they didn't reply to you. my remedy is to click on the picture name above the picture to reload the page without the comment highlight, this will make it easier to avoid this embarrassment.
What you decide to give attention is your own decision to make. Rather than frowing on popular music, wouldn't you rather celibrate the diversity of different music that we have acces to?

the reason is partially because the culture dictates the music. other than that we also have the issue that back in the day, money was the side-effect of making music, not the reason you made music. they used to do what they love, they gave the music a soul. it meant something to them. now-a-days it is algorithmicly generated due to the most mathematically preferred notes and changes in pitch and tone. everything including the words are predictable. nothing is risked, nothing is new. greed is killing music, fame is killing music. there is no passion. they do what sells, rather than what they feel. even country, the last genera of passion, is becoming sterile. i hope people find their passion. music is an ART, keep it that way.
