American Civil War of 1861. Seven southern states displeased with how governance was being handled at the federal level seceded to form the Confederacy. They (at first) weren't trying get to overthrow anything, they wanted to start over from scratch.
I'm sure our British friends will be surprised to find out that King George III was overthrown during the Revolutionary War. And the Southern states were upset about the North trying to abolish slavery.
