If there was an alien ship that was prepared to attack earth, I imagine, that would make those numbers shift.

There IS NO SUCH A THING as HUMAN colony. Or human space stations, or human astronaut. There's American, Russian, British. So will the colonies be. And I don't wanna imagine if USA colonizes Europa (satellite) and Russians take Eo. They don't deploy nukes now, cause they'll harm themselves too, when they're on separate planets, there's no such a worry. And if we share one, well, you know what happened. We'll need nukes even when we find "other earth". That's why Arms first NASA second.

We all dream of a safer world. But it's just a dream, at least for century or two. I mean Piccard from Star Trek is native English speaker native of (something that used to be called) France. Or, remember PortuGreek from that movie Sea world or something... Haha. We can't keep microstates like Montenegro and Kosovo together, let alone Human World republic...

Issue is, half of these arms are being used the way Americans ask the government to NOT use them.

The budget isn't to destroy the planet it's to stop other people from destroying it before we get the chance to explore

Why do people always hate on the military budget?? If we did not have a strong military to prevent others from attacking us, we would not have any money to spend on NASA
