The US captured thousands and thousands of steel oxygen bottles in Germany at the end of WWII. They had a swastika stamped into them by the inspection stamps. The nazis were using oxygen in their airplanes for their crew to fly higher and for increased engine performance and had mass produced high quality cylinders. Our facilities stamped over them and made that 4 square window. Most of these bottles are still in circulation today and maybe half of them going through our shops bear this stamp.
At the end of WW2, the Army confiscated nazi equipment including steel welding tanks stamped with swastikas. They stamped another line to turn them into a box with a cross in it.
These tanks are stamped with a manufacture date and subsequent inspection dates.
You can still find these tanks in use today, they're easy to identify by these dates and markings.
