@guestwho has a bit of a point . There's no actual historical, written, or archaeological proof that man named J.H.Christ existed but he feels so alive cause people believe his contemporaries who did write the (half of) Bible, they don't even doubt it could be allegorical or something. I guess guestwho means Jesus. God is not same as Jesus.
@mialinay Christians believe that the Bible is the word of God, not that God's hand wrote the actual words. I was being rhetorical.
@trustnthngmulder it is actually widely accepted by most historians, scholars, archeologists, and even some competing religions that Jesus did exist. Of course, whether he was actually a supernatural being is doubted, but most folks do believe the man was real.
@kinghitler his middle name was Henry.
"Christians believe that the Bible is the word of God, not that God's hand wrote the actual words". I was being rhetorical. " No, you were being wrong. You made a(n incorrect) factual statement, that's not a figure of speech. Also, when christians believe the the bible is the word of god, they believe in god, which is exactly like believing in Bigfoot. Well, of course the existence of Bigfoot is way more likely, but let's not make this too complex for you.
Also, even though Jesus may have been a historic figure, all this son of god stuff came up _way_ after he was dead. It seems he was some pretty decent guy causing a fuss and getting executed. The rest is a fairytale, like the entire bible. Other religions referring to him or accepting his existence do not see him as related to (their) god, but as a prophet. As christians and muslims are technically jewish sects, this isn't exactly astonishing.

God or Jesus didn't even write the Bible, it was Jesus's followers that did based on what they believed he would think.
Jesus was a real person, but almost everything about him was a myth created by the Bible and the Christian people to glorify him.
Uh... Yeah.
Wait, I know; let's just argue about shit that wasn't even said because we're bored little assholes that just like to be dicks for no damn reason!

Well I mean there is no evidence that your god exists, so why should you bash other people's beliefs
Did you even pay attention in history class?
@thesassiestllama I never said I had a god, much less who he, she, or it may be. I only said that there is written information on the Christian God, supposedly written by followers who had conversed with Him, where as no one has come forward with anything purported to be "The Word of Sasquatch", so the point the post is attempting to make is completely irrelevant and moot.
I'm at a loss to understand the confusion here.
This written information on god is exactly as accurate as the info on Bigfoot, and less likely to be true, full of logical fallacies right from the start. The purpose of making up god is to communicate shit he allegedly said, to get across the agenda of the ones who made him up. So naturally people would make up shit he said. There is no reason to do the same with a hairy monster taking dumps in a forest. So the fact that there's written information on god doesn't mean jack shit.
.
Btw: referring to god as Him with a capital H is sort of a giveaway. Kinda cute...
Was it written by a human? Haven't you seen the different views on any "Hot Topic" to see how people can either be swayed or change opinion on the word of a human? If in fact your retaliatory comment is "He was scribing what he was told" then you do have to take into account translation.
I do consider myself a Christian, though I am not necessarily religious, but I don't give two shits what your opinion is fsuser and I think you know that by now. Just because you have some pathological hatred of religion (or any opinions that differ from yours, really) doesn't mean everyone else is as big a dick as you are. The Christian god is called God; it is a proper name, so it is capitalized. Likewise any reference to him (Him) is also capitalized because it is also a proper name. The funny thing is I also capitalize Allah when I write, also Buddha, Jehovah, and the Flying damn Spaghetti Monster! Proper English and respect for others is not something to be made fun of and I sure as hell don't feel I need to defend myself to your sorry ass. Pathetic.
Furthermore, whether anyone believes in God or Sasquatch or Jiminy freaking Cricket is irrelevant. The point is that there is documentation backing a belief in a god; any god, really, since all religions have Holy books, but there is no corresponding cult of Bigfoot with corresponding literature.
They just aren't the same thing.
"The point is that there is documentation backing a belief in a god; any god, really, since all religions have Holy books, but there is no corresponding cult of Bigfoot with corresponding literature. " - What? There's a brazillion pics, videos, websites about Biggie. Did you just assume that's all baloney?
Jeez the people on this website! I don't care about your religious standpoint! we didn't ask. Got it? Wether or not you think Religion and it's (proof) is real then just keep it in your mind and keep scrolling! Don't make me have to come all the way down here after you all make this whole argument to give everybody this great lecture. Jesus may or may not have lived. He may or may not have had amazing connections with the god that may or may not exist.

I've read a lot of shit over the years. There's "evidence" that Socrates is the same person as Henry Christ, and believe me they're quite compelling. Jesus wasn't maybe that big in 9. anno christi but He would be all over media in 32. Someone would write something (in stone) in Rome. They had more important stuff, but this is also big thing. And there's just scraps. Few scrolls few pots. Did you know that Cyclops were actually real? Not kidding.
Cyclops is for those who don't know, a tribe in Greece who dug out their eyes and tattooed one on forehead (so they can be Zeus' Seers). Zeus (pater) from Devs pater (Devla as our Gypsies say)in India, Jus pater (Jupiter) in Roman religion Jehovas pater or illahi Judeo -Christian Allah in Islam was also supposed tribesman, father of us (indoeuropeans) all.
The real dude we superimposed as a face to an unknown (then) force of universe that gave birth to us and to everything there is we saw as a birthgiving father. IT'S SYMBOLIC. That Devs, bearded Indian isn't floating there squeezing universe from his cloaka. IT'S SYMBOLIC. The dude might be real but it's idealized. With qualities from prophet forefathers before Him, starting from Devs so Jeshua might just be a representation of former prophets
Just because you have the followers of John the Baptist to this day that doesn't prove their ancestors followed one man (second cousin of Jesus conviniently) named Johanne, just as well as bacchanal women followed Bacchus the prophet from religions waaay before them (he wasn't some Greek living in Thessaly),he was real (maybe) but not there and then. They were ripping young boys in blood after intoxicated with wine god Bacchus' wine (body of Christ and wine sipping from goblet in church) . Even if there were Luke and Mark who wrote half of Bible that means nothing. They might have followed something from before. Not there and then.
@trustnthngmulder it is actually widely accepted by most historians, scholars, archeologists, and even some competing religions that Jesus did exist. Of course, whether he was actually a supernatural being is doubted, but most folks do believe the man was real.
