It should still be required reading. This and Animal Farm. And no, I don't think we should all live as communists, I just want people to think about too much power being in such few hands.
Oh...I read it as promoting it. I never was good at politics though so I'm sure I was wrong. Thanks for the clarification.
But the point of my comment is the idea of a select few having too much power over the people.
I read this magnificent monster for the first time when I was 14yo. It was fire and fuel for my heart AND my mind. Since then I read it several times... As I had grown, as the world had changed, the book had changed. Every time I found new questions, new emotions, new inspirations. It is such a strong book.
I HIGLY recommend reading this masterpiece AGAIN.
I had to read this in elementary school, with Night, Fahrenheit 451, Animal Farm, Treasure Island, Tom Sawyer, Robinson Cruso, Huck Finn and so many other thought provoking classics. These should be required reading again.
I read it in school, movies are just no substitute. So many people just do not read anymore unless it is FB, Twitter, SnapChat, etc. So very damned sad. These are the people that will be running this planet someday. Scary as hell.
Never read in school though...just from my mums recommendation. And the fact that George Orwell wrote it in the next village to where I grew up.
Animal Farm is also amazing. Seen that as a play too which was phenomenal.

(Lord of the flies is another bug one.)
