In the US, many sex ed classes only teach abstinence, and it's even forbidden to teach about condoms and other forms of birth control in some states. Periods and such are rarely ever covered.
Well that's dumb. I recently had a sex education session at my school, and it was all about how to stay safe if you're having sex. They recognise that some teenagers my age, are having sex, and the most important thing to them is us not getting pregnant.
My school didn't have sex ed. In intermediate school ( grades 5 and 6 ) we got a 30 minute seminar that basically said " you're going to bleed once a month. Put the pads in your underwear. That's all. " And my parents thought I knew from school so when my period came I literally thought it was only one bleed a month, not a week of it.
And in and all throughout highschool the closest we got to sex ed was a unit on reproductive organs and what they do ( basically the scientific how a baby is made ) or child development which they only gave you if you were pregnant ( though most of that class is after the baby is born stuff )
I once went to a party and this couple was filling a sippy cup with sprite for their toddler. I suggested they give her one of the fruit juices at the table, and they said "but those have so many added sugars."
I know everything
Internet can be very useful and careless parents at night who think you're asleep too
