Aw she just loves you and wants to be with you. My roommates cat thinks if she can beat me to my bedroom door she automatically gets to come inside my room. (I'm allergic to cats which is why they aren't allowed in)

Not making eye contact is a form of submission, just like making eye contact can be considered a challenge. Your dog isn't trying to be sneaky or clever, its asking (begging really) for permission.

But aren't behaviors like that learned from social cues? If you grew up around humans, wouldn't it be natural to assume showing teeth implies friendliness?
