I understand that sometimes people aren't as used to using cardinal directions but it's not as if it hasn't been used for directions for thousands of years.
Cardinal directions really only help if you have a map or a compass. If you don't have that and someone just tells you to go west, you'd be confused too
How can you not know what direction is what? It's easy. I can always point south no matter where I am or what I see, from there it's easy to tell the rest of the points.
