Mom's meow at their kittens in a way. They make a high pitched purr noise and that's how they find their kittens, Them making the same noise at you is them showing you trust

Kittens meow when they needs food or attention. Adult cats do the same thing to humans because they realize that the kitten behavior gets their attention.
